Dominic Solanke led a spectacular Tottenham Hotspur comeback, as Spurs rallied from two goals behind to draw with Manchester City, throwing a serious blow to City’s Premier League title hopes.
Manchester City dominated for long stretches, particularly in the first half, but Spurs recovered after the break to turn around a dismal situation and earn a point.
City dominance before the break
City dominated the first half. Rayan Cherki opened the goal after being allowed to drive forward unimpeded, sending a low shot past Guglielmo Vicario.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings, with Cherki coming close again before City increased their lead just before halftime.
Radu Dragusin’s clumsy clearing fell to Rodri, who then unleashed Bernardo Silva. The midfielder then slid in Antoine Semenyo, who finished comfortably to conclude a commanding first-half display.
Spurs were booed off at halftime after being thoroughly outplayed.
Spurs find a response
Tottenham had more intensity after the restart and started to exert pressure.
Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into a fantastic save to deny Destiny Udogie before Spurs finally got back into the game.
Solanke scored a scruffy goal, which City protested due to claims of a foul on Marc Guehi. However, the strike changed everything and elevated the home team.
Solanke’s moment of magic
The equalizer was the game’s highlight. Solanke demonstrated quick awareness and technique by executing an improvised scorpion kick to convert Conor Gallagher’s cross, placed slightly behind him, past Donnarumma and into the net.
The draw leaves Manchester City six points behind league leaders Arsenal, while Spurs receive rare home praise this season for a comeback that appeared improbable at halftime.
