We would not hold PDP for another party to come in power in 2027, says Makinde

Gov. Seyi Makinde has vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State will not participate in any deal to keep the party in power till another party takes control at the national level in 2027.

Makinde made the statement on Tuesday at the governor’s inauguration of a newly built PDP Secretariat in Oyo State, which is located in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

The governor stated that he was allied with some individuals in 2023 who ensured the establishment of the other party in the presidential election, “but now, I’ve repented.” I won’t go again.

“But for them to hold PDP for another party to be in power, it is no, no, no,” according to him.

Makinde blamed the issue gripping his party on the actions of a few individuals within the PDP.

He stated that the individuals were dismissed from the party in November 2025.

“So whatever it is that they are doing, you should be able to trace it back to their origin,” Makinde told the crowd.

Speaking on the party’s court cases, the governor expressed complete trust in the nation’s judiciary, stating that the court will do the right thing.

He emphasized that the judiciary, as the final hope of the common man, will render justice to the “PDP”.

Highlights of the occasion were the handover of the freshly built structure’s paperwork, named after the party’s former state chairman, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, to the court-nulled factional national PDP leader, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki.

Turaki praised Makinde for the building and his contributions to the party’s success.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Jan. 30, a Federal High Court in Ibadan declared the party’s convention held in Ibadan on Nov. 15 and 16, 2025, which elected Turaki as chairman, null and void.
