This week, NASTV Africa proudly celebrates Dr. Abiodun Akanbi, an accomplished finance and investment executive, respected scholar, and strategic economic thinker whose career spans more than 25 years of remarkable service in banking, capital markets, corporate finance, investment management, risk management, public-private partnerships, and public sector financial strategy.
Currently serving as the Chief Investment Officer of Abuja Investments Company Limited, Dr. Akanbi provides strategic leadership in investment planning, corporate finance, and economic research. He also served with distinction as the Acting Group Managing Director of the company between September 2023 and April 2024, demonstrating visionary leadership during a critical period.
One of his most remarkable contributions in recent years has been his strategic role in shaping the Abuja Business and Investment Expo into one of Nigeria’s foremost investment and economic engagement platforms. Through his brilliance, intellectual depth, and innovative leadership, he has helped strengthen the Expo’s vision of positioning Abuja as a leading investment destination in Africa. Over the past three years, the Expo has continued to attract distinguished investors, policymakers, business executives, entrepreneurs, development partners, academics, innovators, and economic experts from across Nigeria and the African continent. His expertise in investment strategy, corporate finance, and public-private partnerships has contributed significantly to creating a platform that promotes collaboration, showcases investment opportunities, stimulates enterprise development, and projects Abuja as a gateway for sustainable economic growth and continental partnerships.
His academic journey reflects an unwavering commitment to excellence. He holds a PhD in Management (Finance), an M.Phil. in Management, an MBA, an M.Sc. in Banking and Finance, and a B.Sc. in Economics.
Beyond executive leadership, Dr. Akanbi is passionate about developing future financial leaders. As an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Abuja Business School and the CBN Centre for Financial Studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he teaches Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Risk Management, Investment Analysis, and Public Finance while mentoring the next generation of finance professionals.
His professional credentials further distinguish him as one of Africa’s leading financial experts. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (FCS), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB), Fellow of ACCA, an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (UK), an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ACA), and an Authorized Dealing Clerk of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Dr. Akanbi’s influence also extends into research, with numerous scholarly publications covering public debt management, financial markets, monetary policy, fintech, financial inclusion, cryptocurrency accounting, renewable energy entrepreneurship, MSME finance, and economic growth. His research continues to contribute to policy discussions and financial sector development in Nigeria and beyond.
His professional journey includes key leadership positions at Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank Plc, the Debt Management Office of Nigeria, Northbridge Securities Limited, Northbridge Investment Limited, Lead Capital Limited, and Broad Bank Limited (now part of Union Bank Plc.), where he consistently delivered value through innovation, strategic thinking, and financial expertise.
