The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it revised the campaign timetable for the 2027 General Elections, describing the information as false and misleading.
The commission clarified that it has not issued any separate or revised timetable for political campaigns, urging Nigerians to disregard the viral publication and rely solely on information released through its official communication channels.
The clarification followed the circulation of a graphic online alleging that INEC had made slight adjustments to the dates marking the end of political campaigns for the 2027 elections. The document claimed that campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections would end on January 15, 2027, while those for the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections would conclude on February 5, 2027.
Reacting to the reports, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, said the commission did not release the purported timetable.
He explained that the only valid timetable remains the revised schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections, which was officially published by INEC on February 26, 2026.
According to him, no changes have been made to the commission’s official schedule, adding that any information suggesting otherwise should be treated as misinformation.
INEC reiterated that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027, as earlier announced.
The commission also warned that the election period is often accompanied by the spread of false and misleading information capable of creating confusion among citizens and political stakeholders.
It therefore urged Nigerians, political parties, media organisations, and other stakeholders to verify election-related information through its official platforms before sharing or acting on such reports.
As preparations for the 2027 General Elections continue, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process while encouraging the public to remain vigilant against misinformation.
