The United Kingdom Government has officially opened applications for the 2026 Chevening Scholarships, offering outstanding professionals and emerging leaders from Nigeria and other eligible countries the opportunity to pursue fully funded master’s degrees at universities across the UK.
Applications opened on Tuesday, August 4, and will remain open until October 6, 2026, giving prospective candidates two months to complete and submit their applications through the Chevening online portal.
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in partnership with various organisations, the Chevening Scholarship is one of the world’s most prestigious international scholarship programmes. It is designed to develop future leaders by providing access to quality education, professional networks and leadership opportunities in the United Kingdom.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees, monthly living expenses, return airfare to the UK and other essential costs associated with studying abroad, enabling recipients to focus entirely on their academic and professional development.
According to the UK Government, the programme seeks applicants who demonstrate strong leadership potential, excellent networking skills and a commitment to using the knowledge and experience gained in the UK to drive positive change in their home countries.
Interested applicants are expected to apply for a one-year eligible master’s degree at a recognised UK university and submit supporting documents as part of the selection process. Candidates are also encouraged to carefully review the eligibility criteria and application guidance before submitting their entries.
Successful applicants will join the global Chevening alumni network, which comprises thousands of professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs and public servants who have gone on to make significant contributions in their respective fields around the world.
The UK Government urged qualified candidates to begin their applications early and ensure all required information is submitted before the October deadline, as late applications will not be considered.
