Umahi Inaugurates Team to Document and Promote Infrastructure Gains Ahead of 2027 APC Presidential Campaign

The Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE, has inaugurated members of the Office of the Deputy Director General (ODDG) for Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation under the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Speaking at the inaugural meeting held on Thursday, 15 October 2026 in Abuja, Umahi — who serves as Deputy Director General for the portfolio — described the gathering as a chance to build collaboration, mutual understanding, and effective working relationships among team members.

He urged them to approach their duties with a shared sense of purpose, commitment, and cooperation. Coordinated engagement, he said, will be essential for communicating infrastructure developments and their impact on ordinary Nigerians.

Documenting projects across all zones and MDAs

Umahi explained that the team’s core task is to identify, document, compile, and publicise infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government. While the Federal Ministry of Works accounts for a large share of these investments, coverage will extend to other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to give a fuller picture of development across the six geopolitical zones.

He charged the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six zones — appointed as Zonal Coordinators — along with other ODDG members and the Secretary, to work together on this compilation. Projects to be documented include those of the Ministry of Works as well as infrastructure initiatives from other MDAs. The goal is to present a comprehensive overview of the Renewed Hope Administration’s infrastructure investments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, nationwide.

Existing publicity efforts by the Ministry and the Senior Special Assistants will continue. The ODDG is expected to provide a broader coordinating framework for information on projects undertaken by other MDAs at sub-national, zonal, and national levels. Accurate documentation and clear communication, Umahi noted, will help ensure the public has access to reliable information on these projects.

Infrastructure as an economic driver

The Minister stressed that infrastructure investment drives economic growth, national development, and community integration. “Infrastructure investment stimulates economic activities, connects communities, creates opportunities and supports the growth of other sectors of the economy,” he said.

He also highlighted the Federal Government’s use of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology in road construction. This approach reduces dependence on imported bitumen, encourages the use of locally available materials and expertise, supports local economic activity, lowers foreign-exchange demand for construction materials, and delivers more durable, sustainable roads.

Umahi called on ODDG members to carry out their assignments with diligence, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility. Effective communication and public sensitisation, he emphasised, are vital so that information on infrastructure projects is accurately compiled and widely shared.

The inauguration marks an early step in strengthening coordination around infrastructure-related communication, mobilisation, and public sensitisation within the Office of the Deputy Director General for the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.
