NGX Inducts 103 Dealing Clerks, Reinforces Market Integrity

The Nigerian Exchange Limited has inducted 103 newly qualified Authorised Dealing Clerks in a move aimed at promoting professionalism, building capacity, and upholding ethical standards within Nigeria’s capital market.

The new dealing clerks earned their qualifications after completing the NGX’s 15-day Automated Trading System Brokers’ Certification Programme. The programme covers areas including market structure, trading procedures, regulatory compliance requirements, and the operational framework of the Exchange.

At the ceremony, NGX Chief Executive Officer, Jude Chiemeka, congratulated the inductees and encouraged them to uphold strong principles of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct as they begin their careers in the market.

“Today, we celebrate the outstanding achievements of the candidates who have successfully completed the Nigerian Exchange’s Automated Trading System Brokers’ Certification Programme,” Chiemeka said.

According to him, the programme was established to develop the competence, capacity, and character of aspiring market professionals. He added that the inductees had completed all academic and professional requirements and secured the required regulatory approvals to practise as Authorised Dealing Clerks.

Chiemeka further pointed to the importance of maintaining market integrity, explaining that the ceremonial robes presented to the inductees represented their firm commitment to the ethical standards of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and the NGX Rulebook.

He also reaffirmed the Exchange’s zero-tolerance approach to market infractions, while calling on the new dealing clerks to consistently maintain high standards of professional conduct.

The Doyen of the Market, Rasheed Yusuf, noted that stockbrokers have responsibilities that extend beyond executing trades. He identified these responsibilities as facilitating capital raising, improving market liquidity, offering sound investment guidance, and expanding retail and diaspora participation.

“The Exchange and the capital market constitute a platform to turn around the fortunes of the Nigerian economy, and I encourage you to leverage every channel available to create impact,” Yusuf said.

Yusuf also advised the inductees to stay proactive, consistently improve their professional knowledge, and remain updated on developments affecting both the global and domestic capital markets.

In separate remarks, Sehinde Adenagbe, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria, and Fiona Ahimie, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, urged the new dealing clerks to comply strictly with market rules and professional standards.

They pointed to the important role of market practitioners in strengthening investor confidence and supporting the growth and development of Nigeria’s capital market.

With the induction of the 103 dealing clerks, the pool of qualified market professionals has expanded as the NGX continues its efforts to deepen market participation and strengthen institutional capacity within the nation’s securities market.
