Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has brought its landmark Initial Public Offering (IPO) to a close, attracting applications from investors in 120 countries across the six inhabited continents. Participation extended to all 54 African nations, showcasing the continent’s capacity to mobilise investment and expand public access to ownership in major industrial ventures.
The offer, popularly known as The People’s IPO, recorded participation from across Africa and other parts of the world, setting a notable example for the accessibility and international reach of African capital markets. Beyond its fundraising objective, the exercise illustrated how digital solutions, financial sector partnerships and modern distribution networks can open investment opportunities to a broader audience, including individual investors who have often been excluded from major industrial transactions.
Commercial banks, stockbroking firms, fintech companies, capital market institutions and other distribution partners contributed to the process. Their collective involvement helped make the offer accessible across borders and created additional opportunities for retail investors to participate.
For Dangote Industries Limited, completing the IPO represents a significant development in the group’s industrial history. The exercise provides a pathway for more Africans to acquire an ownership interest in the refinery, extending participation in an enterprise originally driven by a single entrepreneur’s vision.
Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, said the outcome demonstrated the confidence Africans have in their continent’s economic potential and their ability to finance development through local resources.
He recalled that the construction of the refinery had challenged doubts about Africa’s ability to deliver an industrial project of such scale. According to him, the IPO has now provided further evidence that Africans are prepared to invest in businesses established on the continent and benefit from the prosperity they generate.

Dangote said the participation of investors from every African country carried particular importance, as it reflected a desire among Africans not only to consume products made on the continent but also to own stakes in the industries responsible for producing them.
He explained that the company’s decision to offer shares to the public was not motivated exclusively by the need to secure additional funding. The objective, he said, was to broaden ownership, give ordinary Africans access to an investment opportunity of global significance and promote a culture in which economic success is shared more widely.
According to Dangote, the refinery was developed through African ambition and determination, making it important for its future growth to generate opportunities for people across the continent.
He added that the transaction could encourage more Africans to become investors, entrepreneurs and industrialists. He also stressed the need to build an Africa that is prosperous, economically independent and capable of determining its own financial future.
Dangote reaffirmed that the company would continue to pursue its expansion plans and Vision 2030 strategy, with priorities including stronger operational performance, increased support for Africa’s energy security and sustainable returns for shareholders.
David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, said the global response to the offer reflected investor confidence in the refinery’s operational capabilities, industrial scale and long-term prospects.
Bird described the successful conclusion of the IPO as a major milestone for the business. He said the company would focus on improving operational performance, achieving sustainable growth and delivering lasting value to shareholders.
The public offer opened on September 14, 2026, with 4.1 billion ordinary shares available at ₦525 each, representing a proposed capital raise of approximately ₦2.15tn.
The offer was initially due to close on October 13 but was extended to October 27 after receiving approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The additional period gave prospective investors in African countries and international markets more time to submit their applications.
Murat Erden, Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, also discussed the implementation of the offering and its broader importance, noting that the transaction had created a significant benchmark for capital markets across Africa.
