GeoPredict AI, FrassPlus and Organic Battery have emerged as winners of the maiden Tech-Innovation Challenge organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to identify and accelerate indigenous technology solutions for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Taking the top spot, GeoPredict AI emerged as the overall winner, while FrassPlus and Organic Battery, developed under the project name Metallocene, secured second and third places respectively.
Their emergence followed months of applications, pitching sessions, mentorship and intensive technical and business development, with the winners announced during the final round and awards ceremony held at the NCDMB Tower in Yenagoa on August 13, 2026.
A flagship initiative of NCDMB’s Planning, Research and Statistics Directorate, the Tech-Innovation Challenge was implemented by Entrepreneurship & Innovation Centre Limited.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at NCDMB, Silas Ajimijaye, said the initiative was designed to move Nigerian content beyond manpower and ownership into the development and deployment of indigenous technology.
Ajimijaye urged operators in the oil and gas industry to move beyond acknowledging local innovations and actively procure and deploy them.
Representing the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Felix Ogbe, the Director of Corporate Services and Chairman of the TIC 2026 Steering Committee, Abdulmalik Halilu, also called on industry stakeholders to provide opportunities for the innovations to undergo field trials and commercial deployment.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of EICL, Chika Chinwah, the challenge was created to provide existing Nigerian talent with a pathway to develop solutions capable of addressing real needs within the oil and gas industry.
More than 100 applications were received from innovators across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with participants including startups, independent engineers, technology entrepreneurs, universities and research institutions.
With GeoPredict AI, FrassPlus and Organic Battery emerging as the top three entries, the inaugural Tech-Innovation Challenge has concluded with renewed emphasis on moving indigenous innovations towards practical applications within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
