RENEWED HOPE INFRASTRUCTURE DRIVE: PBAT TO FLAG OFF MAJOR LAMBATA–BIDA–MOKWA–MAKERA–KONTAGORA ROAD PROJECT 401KM HIGHWAY PROJECT EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN CONNECTIVITY, AGRICULTURE AND COMMERCE IN NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA

President Tinubu to Flag Off 401km Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Highway Reconstruction on Tuesday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to flag off the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Federal Highway in Niger State on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The ceremony will hold at 12 noon in Bida.

The project covers a reported 401-kilometre corridor that serves as a major route through Niger State and the wider North-Central region. Once completed, the dualised highway is expected to improve the movement of people, agricultural produce, and commercial goods, while reducing travel delays and strengthening road safety along the stretch.

Niger State is a key agricultural area. Better road access can help farmers reach markets faster, support businesses that depend on the efficient transport of goods, and open more economic opportunities for communities along the corridor. For transporters, traders, and residents, a more reliable highway means smoother daily movement and stronger commercial activity.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Works, Senator (Engr.) Nweze David Umahi, the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, and other federal and state officials. Dr. Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagements (North Central), has welcomed the flag-off, describing it as an important step for connectivity and economic activity in the region.

The project forms part of the infrastructure priorities under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which treats solid road networks as essential for linking production centres to markets and supporting broader economic growth.

As work begins, attention will shift to the approved scope, contractor, funding arrangements, construction timeline, and quality standards. Official details on the contract sum, exact length confirmation, and expected completion date are expected from the Federal Ministry of Works.

The flag-off marks the start of a major infrastructure push in Niger State. Its real value will depend on timely delivery of a durable road that actually serves the communities and businesses that rely on it.
