The city of Ilorin witnessed a significant religious and cultural event on Friday, July 10, 2026, as Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Al-Fulany (Imam Fulani) was formally turbaned as the 13th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate.
The historic ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace, Ilorin, was led by the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, and attracted a large gathering of Islamic leaders, government officials, community leaders, and well-wishers from within and beyond Kwara State.
The turbaning ceremony marked the official installation of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Al-Fulany as the spiritual leader of the Ilorin Emirate, reaffirming the emirate’s long-standing Islamic heritage and commitment to preserving its religious traditions.
Following the ceremony at the palace, dignitaries and guests proceeded to the Chief Imam’s family residence on Sanni-Okin Street, Agaka, Isale-Fulani, Ilorin, where they paid homage and celebrated the occasion. The day’s activities concluded with a Grand Reception and Islamic Lecture held at Baboko Community Secondary School, bringing together members of the Muslim community and other guests in celebration of the new Chief Imam.
The event was widely regarded as a landmark occasion in the history of the Ilorin Emirate, highlighting the unity, faith, and cultural values that continue to define the emirate’s rich religious legacy.
