AFRICAN WOMAN IN AGRICULTURE: SARAH AMEH

Across Africa, women continue to play important roles in agriculture, rural development and the economic advancement of their communities. One woman contributing to this journey is Sarah Ameh, a Nigerian professional whose experience cuts across agronomy, administration, community development and women’s empowerment.

With over a decade of professional experience, Sarah has built a career around creating practical solutions, supporting organizations and contributing to initiatives that improve opportunities for women and communities.

Her connection to the agricultural sector was strengthened through her years with SOL Agronomies Nigeria Limited, where she served as an Administrative Officer from 2014 to 2023. In the role, she supported organizational operations, procurement, inventory management, records administration, budgeting and other activities essential to the effective running of the organization.

Beyond her professional experience in the agronomy sector, Sarah has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to the empowerment of women, particularly women in rural communities.

As the President of Hope Empowerment for Mobilization & Advancement (HEMA) Foundation, a position she has held since 2024, she leads initiatives focused on equipping women and girls with skills and opportunities to become self-reliant. Her responsibilities include leading strategic initiatives, community intervention projects, fundraising and grant activities, as well as representing the Foundation at workshops and conferences.

One of the key areas of her work is the economic empowerment of rural women through the introduction of an interest-free loan scheme in communities served by the Foundation. Through such initiatives, Sarah contributes to creating opportunities for women to participate more actively in economic activities and improve their livelihoods.

Her professional journey also includes experience with Clean Energy Consult, Abuja, where she served as an NYSC Intern and participated in community engagement and awareness programmes focused on renewable energy and sustainable practices.

With a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and a Diploma in Law, Sarah brings together professional discipline, leadership, communication and community-focused experience in her work.

Her journey reflects the growing contribution of African women not only to agriculture and agribusiness, but also to the wider development of rural communities. Through her experience in the agronomy sector and her continued commitment to empowering rural women, Sarah Ameh represents a woman using her professional journey to create opportunities and contribute to sustainable community development.
