The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly vandalising and stealing power supply cables in Dapchi, Bursari Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were apprehended following a prompt response by operatives of the Dapchi Divisional Police Headquarters after receiving reports of the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the community.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, identified the suspects as Danladi Saleh, 30, Usman Ibrahim, 33, both from Dapchi, and Mohammed Ali, 23, a resident of Geidam Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly dismantled feeder cables used for electricity distribution, causing damage to power infrastructure and disrupting electricity supply in the affected area. Some electricity poles were also reportedly damaged during the incident.
SP Abdulkarim disclosed that operatives recovered a substantial quantity of stolen cables, which had allegedly been cut into pieces and prepared for illegal sale before the suspects were arrested.
He noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the crime and to identify other individuals who may be connected to the act.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and warned criminal elements against engaging in acts of vandalism, stressing that offenders would be made to face the full weight of the law.
Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid efforts to combat crime across the state.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to curb the vandalisation of public infrastructure and safeguard essential services in communities across the country.
