Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has rated the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu an “F9,” describing the government’s performance as a failure in addressing Nigeria’s key socio-economic and security challenges.
Sowore made the assessment during a recent interview, where he evaluated the Tinubu administration’s record since assuming office. Borrowing from Nigeria’s secondary school grading system, he said an “F9” reflected what he described as the government’s inability to deliver meaningful progress in critical sectors.
According to him, Nigerians continue to grapple with rising inflation, the high cost of living, widespread unemployment and persistent insecurity despite promises made by the government at the beginning of its tenure.
The activist also criticised the administration’s economic policies, arguing that recent reforms have placed additional hardship on citizens without producing the expected improvements in their standard of living.
Sowore further alleged that governance under the current administration had fallen short of public expectations, insisting that greater attention should be given to policies capable of improving the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
He maintained that Nigeria requires transparent leadership, accountability and people-centred reforms to tackle the country’s numerous challenges and restore public confidence in government institutions.
The comments come amid ongoing public debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration, with supporters pointing to reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, attracting investment and improving infrastructure, while critics argue that the policies have intensified economic hardship for many Nigerians.
President Tinubu’s administration has consistently defended its economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, maintaining that the measures are necessary to place the country’s economy on a sustainable path despite their short-term impact on citizens.
Sowore’s remarks have continued to generate reactions across political circles and social media, adding to the wider national conversation on governance, economic recovery and the direction of the country.
